Fashion designer is a term which started in the 70s to designate a new generation of signature styles.
Only the really famous dressmakers were regarded as " Fashion designers ", but with the emergence of the prêt-a-porter, the designers claim a new name, that of the "Fashion designers".
Each young dressmaker has a style which is unique, thus creating a whole new diversity in fashion. This time period brings in waves of new fashion designers onto the fashion market.
At the beginning of the Seventies, they are Kenzo, Issey Miyaké, Jean Charles de Castelbajac, Sonia Rykiel...
Around 1975, it is Agnès B, Claude Montana, Chantal Thomas, Thierry Mugler(who asserts the feminine elegance), Jean Paul Gaultier (the terrible child of fashion who invented the dress corset and created the skirt for man...).
In 1983 Karl Lagerfeld arrives at Chanel.
Without forgetting:
In 1972, Adidas become official sponsor of the Olympic Games, universally known under the name " the brand with the three bands" in relation with its logo.
In 1974, Converse introduces the "One Star" tennis shoe, which will later be adopted as street fashion.
And various movements of fashion:
Punk appeared in Great Britain around 1976-1977.
Adlib appears in Ibiza around 1970-1980. These are dresses with long and wide printed fabric of psychedilic colors.
Disco music appeared towards the end of 1970. Miniskirts were the popular fashion for the girls. Boys wore long jackets and "leg of elephant" trousers.
